Last night I was watching "For whom the bells tolls" with Gary Cooper, and in the scene qhere the nationalist tanks advance toward the bridge -near the end of the movie- there appear at least two FT17s with a modified turret. perhaps a post-war american modification? Anyway, it was cool to...
Hi, I can't resist presenting the great work of a Belgian friend of mine, Mathieu Pascal, member of several Historical Associations, who realized this 21cm Morser M1910 in position in front of the Forts of Liege, in August 1914. He realized an impressive conversion of the 1/35 Verlinden Kit #1022 (n...
Hi: I'm building a British Mark 5. I see in the photos there is a horizontal braced bracket with a vertical hole in the end, aft of the signal mast. Any ideas on it's purpose. Could it be for a flag? Thanks, Chris A.
In 1999 I went for holidays to Borneo, Malysia. At Kuching, capital of Sarawak I visted the police museum. In fact it was more a museum of local military history, fitted with life size figure of ANZACS (Liberation of Malaysai 1945) and british forces of the 60s (communist insurgency) and such. Howeve...
I wanted? to use Cambrai Day to registrate here and introduce myself in short. I?m Robert from northern Germany and I was visiting Peter Kempf?s HP for years. I did airplane modelling in the past, but swapped to reenactment and PC game modding (WWI mods of course) during my studies. Always had a deep in...
I visited Paris in Oktober and surely visited the collections at Les Invalides. It was my second time after 1998. Im remember from my fist visit, that in the side yards of the building complex there was a great number of french (and german?) WWI guns located, standing freely under the sky, but were unac...
Gentlemen, I was hoping someone could identify "Minna" for me please. She looks larger than 15cm, but then I'm no expert. I've thumbed through my Herbert J?ger's German Artillery of World War One and the usual online resources and have drawn a blank - which is not uncommon Thanks in advanc...
I am wondering to what extend research was carried out during WW I on electrical / electronics weapons. - early form of radar was tested and patented before the war but I have never heard of any application/test during the war ? - a Popular Mechanix-style mag had a cover about "electrocuting the e...
I am breaking a project down into small pieces, and here is the first piece... I want to make the louvres on a Tank Mark V or V*. Is it possible to get plasticard or a plastic moulding that looks like the attached photo? Or can someone suggest a method for making the louvres?
The Schneider Canet guns before WW1 were identify with an acronym. I know that P means Puissant,? D "indipentent line of sight" (but I would like to know the French designation, where this D comes from?) I know that a C gun was not fitted for an independent lin of sight, but again I don't know t...
Having at long last opened the box I have realised it's a reissue of the B&K kit. With this in mind does anyone know if there is any alternative etched or other tracks that could be used on the Holt? There seems to be a lot of tracks available to the 2 War modeller would any of these be OK for this? Cheers
Here's a few pic's from old postcards, showing Dutch infantry around 1915 with Schwarzlose MG's on dog carts. During WW-1, the Dutch army slowly changed uniforms from black to field grey. Both uniforms could be seen together. all the best, Michel.
The databases of surviving WW1 artillery suggest there are 3 FK 96 guns in Australia. There are at least 4 - one of which is a couple of km from my place. I've done a small walkaround of it at www.ammsbrisbane.com/reference.htm. The gun is fairly complete comparing it to the diagrams on this site. The gu...
Came across this image on the IWM Collections website showing a 3 ton lorry with an 18 pounder in the back - has anyone come across this before, either in photographs or books etc? Would make an interesting model - also, can anyone ID the lorry from what can be seen? http://www.iwmcollections.org.uk/...
Started reading C.R. Crutchley's Machine Gunner 1914-1918 (an excellant read, by the way) today.? In several instances it mentions guns being taken forward by transport.? Can anyone provide some insight as to what vehicles were used?? I presume that many were by horse drawn wagons . . . would this h...
I just aquired the new DVD set of this series, and by all accounts, this is a very good series - but I was wondering if it was somehow historically innacurate, or ratially biased.
Throughout much of the first episode there is mention that Germany is out to conqour the world, and that is the reason the...
First Estonian armored car was built in December 1918 in Tallinn Harbor factory under engineer Saukas and Johan Pitka (later rear admiral and commander of Estonian Navy). It was named Estonia. It was built on the Federal 3 ton lorry. Second armored car named Tasuja was build soon after. Unfortunate...
Didn't know this had gone on. Memorial to the Tankers who fought around Poelkapelle has recently been inaugurated. From what I can gather, a fairground truck has already backed into it or something similar and damaged it. http://www.tankmemorial.vpweb.co.uk/default.html http://www.tankme...
I just bought a new and fantastic book about the Breda firm. The books mentions artillery production at Breda during the Great War (1915-1918) as 687 210 mm mortars and 480 14,9 cm howitzers. The last one of course was the Krupp 15 cm Haubitze. Kosar mentions this weapon as produced by Vickers in Italy,...
