Couple of questions on the hydraulic ram/pump/jack on the back of a MkI. Were they all armoured (or covered or plated) like the one on Sir Archibald in Gaza, or was that just a Palestine Detachment?modification? What way up were they? The Airfix instructions direct you to put the cylinder at the botto...

? One of the articles we copied over from the original Landships website was an article on the "Renault and Schneider porteurs" by Tim Rigsby. Reading through this article shows that it has some deficiencies. The Renault FB was an artillery portee vehicle but the Schneider CD was a tracke...
A man can't have too many good towing horses, so I bought some Revell WW2 German Artillery setshttp://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=443 and ended up with having a couple of surplus leFH18 guns. What can be done with them conversion-wise, apart from the obvious leFH 18/40 or leFH...

Were there any French ground units at any time in WW1 wearing the tunic (vareuse) rather than the usual coat (capote) together with puttees in combat? So far I think this became common towards the end of the war. In 1914-1917, it seems the Chasseurs Alpines and later tank crews wore this dress, while ca...

This is the last piece I was looking for to complete a collection of all the regularly fielded German Field Artillery pieces in WW1 service (with the possible exceptio...

Santa did, indeed, find room on his sleigh for a copy. "Die deutschen Kampfwagen im Weltkriege". 2008 reprint of 1937 edition. 126 pages, with some familiar pics, plus a couple of modern photos of models. And it's in Fraktur script http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraktur, which makes f...
? New artillery article on Landships II - a St Chamond 155mm howitzer produced in fairly small numbers but it had a long service life with the French and Rumanian Armies and after the fall of France in 1940 with the Finnish and German Armies. Regards, Charlie
Don't know if these are of interest, but took them for Barry (WD Models) so thought i'd put them up here too for reference. These are British folding wirecutters in my collection, these ones are 1917 dated and built by Chater Lea who made motor cars, motorcycles and bicycles. The earliest folding wire...

Mk V** taking part in Bailey bridge test, circa WW2? Should be Bovington's "Ol' Faithfull", I think. Can anyone tell if the commander's cupola has been cut down or not? It was still at the normal height during bridgelaying and mine-rolling trials earlier in its career.
I've read the German artillery had their gun layers wear the cap instead of the helmet, in order to protect the prescious azimuts/sights from banging against something hard. Was this standard throughout the war (and later on)? Did other nations follow suit? Regards, Pat
Hi, I'm no train expert so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I'm building a 1/72 scale Mogul 43XX class as a ROD train but can't work out what colour it should be, ROD 5322 preserved at Didcot is painted in a light tan-brown colour but all the wartime pictures I've seen of ROD trains are very dark almo...
