Hi I,ve been searching pictures of the italian 381 mm md 1914 coastal or railway gun exposing the breech from the rear side. I only have got pictures from the front or lateral part. Please share your pictures with me.
Does anyone have an idea of how to find a German dictionary that would translate the technical language for the various parts of the German 10.5 cm leichte feldhaubitze. I have parts drawings from the Waffen Revue and some specifications from Alfred Muther's 1925 book that I would like to translate i...
Just a few shots of 2 of the dioramas at the AWM. The dioramas are "Ypres, 1917" and "Somme Winter 1916 - 17".
The Somme diorama gives a very good impression of the bleak conditions. The Mk I model does have a few shortcomings (I'll let you guys pick those out). The Mk I wreck painted on the backdrop might...
Hello,
I stumbled across this website and thought I'd pass it on.
Library and Archives Canada
It looks like they have a good number of interesting photos of armored vehicles, unfortunately only a small fraction...
Many thanks for all the replies on tank colours. The information was highly detailed and proved that one cannot rely on colours sent over the net. Two examples of FS colours referred to and supplied were checked against the published FS paint chips that I have and they didn't even come close.
The Tam...
Gentlemen!
Just wanted to let you know, that I've just posted a BIG article by Roger Todd, on the forgotten British super-heavy Tank design, the so called "Flying Elephant".
I dare to say that this is the definitive treatment of this very interesting design, in any media.
It comes with a number...
I enclose a photo from a French web site dedicated to the history of WW1 in Santerre. It shows a Mk IV and a MkV*. Take a look at the V* - its had its 6 pounder removed, mounting, shield and all plus there are no mg guns in the mounts. It seems that this photo exists in the IWM and the Nartional Canadian Archives...
Hi everybody,
there's a example of the rare book of Hundleby and strasheim for sale on Ebay.com.

For those who are missing this wonderful book in there collection.
In my opinion best book ever about the A7V !!

Hi guys,
Just got back from my trip to the AWM in Canberra, Australia. Great place to visit, large section on WWI and the place is full of very helpful staff and volunteers. Haven't sorted out all my photos as yet but I thought I would post a sample of photos I took of the Amiens gun captured in 1918...
I found this auction on Ebay. It's for an old photograph from 1921, of a military guy standing next to a large tank.
But what tank could it be? It is not an FCM-2C. And, it doesnt look like any British or American tank I know of. It certainly looks French. Could this be the FCM-1A? The lines are the close...
Some more photos from the AWM. Not only do these shots show various pieces but the changing attitude to preservation. The AWM (as I'm sure most museums did) used to repaint their items. A lot more of the exhibits are now being left in their original paint finish, no matter how good or bad it is.
Good Day to everyone,
Osprey publishing's campaign series book "Megiddo 1918" tells that there were some german armored cars fitted with train tracks to patrol railway lines in Palestine. I really wondered their number and exact model. May somebody clear this out please ?
Cheers, Emir Ye...
It is sometimes worth revisiting well known photos with a magnifying glass. Looking at a well known shot of recently delivered MkIVs being checked out by their crews at the tankodrome in June 1917 (its in the Devils Chariots and other books) I noticed the row of 'hacks' parked at the back. Blowing up th...
I've been doing some adding up and subtracting (yes I've taken my shoes off). 150 Mk Is were built of which 49 were used at the close of the Somme, 8 at Theipval and 2 at Beaumont Hammel in 1916. Even if they were all lost (which we know not to have been the case) this makes 59 tanks. If we add the 8 that went to Pa...
Has anyone had experience of making decals on a photstat machine or laser printer?
Apparently only one printer in the world will produce white writing, but presumably one could use white decal paper.
Regards,
Tony
The enclosed photo shows what appears to be a version of the Burell-Boydell complete with footed wheels. However it looks a mite more modern than the 1857 model, but the essential format is the same- driver in front of the boiler fireman behind. Unfortunately its source provides no information othe...
Here are some shots of bits and pieces, mostly uniforms and German MG08's, in various sections of the AWM.
Nearly done with the photos. The next topic will be the female Mk IV "Grit" WD 4643.
I have read that the BS turret, or fixed superstructure, made for the FT17 was seven-sided. The few photos I have found seem to show three plates on each side, plus the front plate. This implies that there was no rear plate. Is this interpretation correct?
This picture is from a review of the Greek Army museum on a WW2 orientated web site.
There are pictures of a number of AH and German WW1 artillery pieces, presumably captured. One threfore wonders if the Bulgarians used Fahrpanzers.
