Whippet ARV.jpg
The picture posted in the thread on the odd Mk V is labled as a Whippet ARV. Its too wide for this but does fit the description of the two gun carriers built as salvage machines in June/July 1917. The forward cabs were omitted and the well decked over for a hand operated crane. The driver...
This page has information on Polish armor 1918-1939. Armored trains, tankettes, armored cars, etc. Of especial interest for me was the Self Propelled Guns in the Tankette section. This section involves SPGs based on the Carden-Loyd Mk.VI chassis, with lots of pictures I have never seen before. Cl...
It seems that Carden-Loyd Mk.VI tanks could sport two different widths of tracks.
The track that seems most common to the Mk.VI is extremely narrow (This is the Bovington Carden-Loyd):
The seccond most common is the much w...
I am sorry if this has been brought up before, but I didn't remember seeing it.
On this page here you see a picture of a Mk.V**, and below the image is a link to a 23MB video of a Mk.V** on trials. It's a VERY cool video. This vehicle was a beast! In the background you can also see a Medium Mk.B I believe.

Peter I understand that your e mail is kaput. I'm therefore using the forum to post an article you might find of interest for the site. The text is followed by illustrations, the file names should make it obvious where they fit into the text.
Incidently if you do use it put an acknowledgement in for the...

Hello Guys
I am looking for information, drawings, pictures of the Rheinmetall 10.5cm pictured on page 95 of German Artillery of World War One by Jager
The Germans have it mounted on a stationary mount on a rail car, for anti-aircraft purposes.
Any and all information would be gr...
Hello!
A Cambrai diorama is under construction now. A German steam engine brought a damaged Mark IV tank to a temporary railhead near Cambrai. There the tank is lifted onto a railway flatcar by four hand operated "machines" - unfortunately I don't know the exact word for these wooden frames...
In reference to Peters wonderful model, and accompanying article on the real thing, I was wondering if anyone has any speculation on this picture (From Peters article):
The Fahrpanzer was presu...
Just to let you know, that the newly started RSS Feed for this site, has been closed down for the duration because of technical problems. I'm sorry about this.
June 16, 1916, at the "Elveden Explosives Area" in Norfolk. Lt. Basil Henriques H.S.M.G.C. observes as the artist Lt.-Col. Solomon J. Solomon R.E. camouflages Mother. Henriques recalls that Solomon "painted her with as much care and trouble as if he were covering a canvas for the Royal Academy. I c...

In a chronology of a mining operation in Alaska the following can be found -
McCARTHY - GREEN BUTTE ROAD CHRONOLOGY Including key events at McCarthy and Kennicott1921 Six armored, Holt, five ton tractors, built for war use but never used, have just arrived
What were these armoured Holts?
Actually something like this was actually built by Christie who sold it to the USSR but its not known if it ever left the ground - might have inspired the Soviet glider tank.
As some might recall, I've been busy earlier this year with Peter Kempf, making designs for Landships Decals. Unfortunately we had to stop, since the ALPS printer had to be returned to it's owner. There were many positive reactions when we were still in business, and it seemed that we were fill...
I posted a photo of Vollmer's tractor factory (later Hanomag) disassembling tank parts and building agricultural tractors. I now find that some of these had guns put on them and went into service with the German army in the 1920s. I enclose a photo. It would seem that Versailles did not prohibit self p...
Hello
I would like to present a Whipett 1/15 scale kit. The model had been scratchbuilded using plastic sheets and resin parts casted by Bigtank.
The tactical marking were made using Montex painting masks.

Hello! Awaiting delivery of the DES-kits French 155 mm. GPF in 1:35 I'm currently researching the gun's ammunition. From photos on this great site it seems the shape of it's shells matches more modern 155 mm. ammunition pretty well. I have ordered some 155 mm. shells from Legend and plan to use...

There are not a lot of WWI era model kits, but an unexpected source of donor parts is the AMT Beverly Hillbillies truck! It's a 1/25 scale 1921 Oldsmobile, but it has artillery spoked wooden wheels, a passable early 4 cylinder engine and running gear, a few kegs, stoneware jugs, toolboxes and kerosene...
Whilst we've been discussing the turret shown in the earlier posted photo of the CL one man tankette we've ignored the 2nd machine in the background. looking at the photo again this appears to have a different turret - I enclose a blown up section of the photo. The proportions look quite different (sho...
I had never seen pictures of this vehicle until today. The Mk.V* was the first Carden-Loyd built by Vickers Armstrong. It had a great improvement in suspension over the previous models.
However, it looks like it had a completely different hull configuration aswell.

I posted this question before, but embedded it in another thread of mine, and as such I didnt get any replies on this particular question.

Has anybody set out what is meant by the above shade?
Is there a matching BS Code No. or FS Code No. for it?
Has anybody worked out what proportions of Humbrol colours need to be mixed to provide this effect?
I'd hate to get on the wrong side of the "experts" if there is an approximation or equivalent...
Sometime between 1920 and '21 a sale was organised at Aldershot to dispose of war surplus vehicles. Looking a photos one notices some interesting items including a Hornsby tractor an Erhardt chassis and some US trucks. However I spotted some even stranger items and enclose photos.
The first is ei...
