Yesterday, I was told by a staff member at Firepower (Royal Artillery Museum) that their buildings have been sold and that they are set to leave London by 2016. It is unclear where the collection will go and if the staff is to be retained. This conversation was punctuated by several articles (see links...
Okay, as I understand it there was: Mark V, Mark V*, Mark VIII, Ford 3ton, M1917, FT17, and Steam Tank, Holt Gas Electric Tank, Caterpillar Tank (which might have been only a movie mock up), Tiny Holt Rhombus Tank, Skeleton Tank, Studebaker Tank, Best 75 Tracklayer, Holt 3 Wheeled Steam Tank, Holt Tra...
Held off on this one, assuming someone else would pick up on it, but nobody seems to have done so.

Hello all! I have a new item in my Artillery collection, and i want to share it with you all! This is the German basket for the 77mm fieldguns, for the short rounds. Its a Ersatz Type. Its simplified and made of split wood instead of wicker. Only the bottom is made with wicker. They have been made since 191...
Photos of the Great War Society's display and other exhibits at Tankfest 2013 at the Tank Museum, Bovington. As a tip of the hat to the Great-uncle of a chap who joined us on our display, we portrayed the crew of D50 'Dainty Dinmont', the story being that our Mk IV, B46 'Big Brute' had been newly transferr...
Attached is an image of a Mgebrov-Renault armoured car captured/abandoned at the Narva railway station, Estonia, in 1918. Anyone know which army the Mgebrov-Renault served with before it was captured by the Germans? Regards, Charlie
Gentlemen, I am attempting to scratch build a German pontoon wagon,? but am woefully deficient in detail.??? I will have to make a guesstimate of the wagon dimensions based on the known length of the pontoon ( 28 ft ), and other vehicles in the pioneer train.?? Any pics you might be able to post here woul...
I´d like to order a Saint-Chamond (Final model) from Retrotracks and I´m taking a look to the pics on the online shop. I can see strange things (strange for me, at least): it seems to me the tracks are quite different of the real thing and I don´t see the exhaust pipe and its silencer. It´s not a cheap kit s...
Those interested in WW1 transport may wish to look at the images displayed by Bonham's auctioneers of an extraordinary Hallford from the private collection of Michael Banfield. A 1913 W.O. Subsidy Wolseley is also listed in the sale.
How were American Army used FT17 type tanks organized? Was their organization the same from their first issue until 1932 when they were declared obsolete and placed in storage? I suspect they had a platoon of four tanks, four platoons in a company for 16 and then three or four companies to make a battal...
Stumbled across this: http://www.finedictionary.com/tank.html I had no idea what it was about. Investigations show that it appeared in "Punch" (a now defunct British satirical/humorous magazine) on March 18th, 1920. The figure on the right is obviously Winston Churchill. The ot...
Possibly a stupid question, but I don't know and would be very appreciative of knowledgeable assistance - Is there any evidence of Mark IV Supply Tanks with plated over Male sponsons [as with Mark I Supply Tanks], or did they ALL have 'bespoke' supply sponsons? Plus a supplimental stupid question - A...
We've discussed the dummy A7V in a British WWII film a few times. Assuming the film was made by the Ministry of Information, there's no sign of it on Wkipedia's list of such films. Could Wikipedia be wrong? Whatever next? The only firm documentation we have up to now is thIs list: http://www.south-ce...
Looking on the web, I see that the standard marking seems to be "SUPPLY", but I've also come across a model with the name "BAGGAGE" on the sponson. Is "BAGGAGE" incorrect? Tony
Looked at the Emhar kit's 6pr shields and had a nasty thought - shouldn't the vision slits in the shields be handed for each side - i.e. both on the outside of the gun? But then the gun sights would also have to be handed! Looking at pictures doesn't seem to help - I've seen handed ones, i/s face slits on both...

Apart from the Hogg book on WW1 allied artillery, and the Osprey on British Heavy Artillery of WW1, are there any books recommended for British railway guns/howitzers? Attached is a great photo of a 12 inch Mk V railway howitzer taken at the Armstrong Whitworth works

It seems that the Sunbeam 16 and 24, (1915-1924) is the subject of a recently published book, (ISBN: 978-0957420809). This is reviewed in the Automobile, (June 2013, volume 31, number 4), which refers to 4000 Sunbeams built by the Rover Co. Ltd. under a wartime agreement. With so little information...
I am working on some 1:35 emhar marks and i would like to improve their look. With the recent news of better kits i dont feel the need to go too far on details but i should finish these before buying yet more kits for the undone pile. On prototype rhomboid tanks is there a guide that runs between the small met...
