Older members might remember a 1960s hit record called "I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman". It was an instrumental with whistling by Whistling Jack Smith, and was said to have been a novelty?tune written?in the 60s?by a British musician. However, some lyrics have been found at a car boot sale in...
Hello, In surfing the net just now I stumbled across a photo on EBay (here) of a Rolls Royce armoured car. (I have no ties to the seller.) This photo is new to me and I'd like to find out more. The seller dates the image to WWI. Based on the lack of armoured vent louvers in the plates protecting the radiator an...
The original Retrokit used to advertise "Russian and Belgian Machine-gunners" in the "coming soon" department, but they never?seemed to materialise. I assumed that the company packed up before they were produced, but I've heard a rumour that someone actually got hold of s...
Good evening, I have begun working on my WWI diorama that I have been putting off for years now, and I have started working on my little men...the Doughboys first!? I read on the internet several different takes on painting them, and I am at a loss.? I primered the first set of them, but in that, I also comp...

Hello,
I have a question regarding the Flak 88.
The 88mm Flak 18 is probably the best known German WW2 Gun, but It was developed in WW1 since 1916.
But what exactly are the differences between the WW2 Flak 88 and it's WW1 Predecessors (except the shield)? What do I have to do to conver...
While browsing in a used bookshop recently, I came across an interesting title "Die Deutschen Freikorps 1918 - 1923", by F.W. Oertzen (F. Bruckman Verlag, 1936). I couldn't afford the book, but I did persuade the proprietor to let me copy this interesting photo from the book. The caption...
Hi thought I would start a new thread about these Australian Dummy Tanks... "used successfully by the 4th Australian Division in the attack on Le Vergieur in September 1918." Apparantly ten were built each supported by huge wheels and manned by six crew, were able to easily move the quart...
Hi, I need a hi-res scan or a photographic print of a MkIV (or MkV) tank. This is to illustrate the cover of an upcoming booklet on tanks in WWI in Canadian service (www.servicepub.com/weapons.htm) I have prints of the example at Aberdeen but would prefer to use the tank at the Belgian Army Museum. LLo-...

Hi ?? I've at last got hold of an Airfix Mk1(through Ebay)and although I prefer the larger scales I thought it would be nice to revisit a modell that came in a plastic bag the first time round. I have not got round to buliding a vast reference library yet, so would like to know if I can improve the kit to depic...
I've issued some new sets of decals in 1/35 and suppose that some readers of this forum would be interested in the Latvian Army set, covering a.o. the Putilov Garford, Fiat 3000 and Mk-V hermaphrodite. It can be ordered through my website, www.blackliondecals.nl. all the best, Michel.
My Great-uncle Arthur was taken prisoner near St. Quentin. I know he was only one of millions whose lives were affected by the Great War, and many had far worse experiences than he did, but I could never quite understand how such a kindly old man had seen such terrible things at such a young age and gone on...
?I have added a section to my www.lovettartillery.com web site for WW1 German Artillery Sights, Aiming Circles, Forward Observer Scopes, Binoculars, Range Finders, Aiming Stakes, Artillery Driver Saddles, Harnesses,?Bridles?and other related equipment: http://lovettartillery.com/Ge...
Horse-drawn pigeon loft of the Royal Engineers Signal Corps, 1915. Can't tell the location from the background, but presumably in France/Belgium. Colour scheme appears to be the same as that on some of the bus ones. One theory is that it helped the pigeons to recognise it.
Along with my Latil TAR, I've built a 155GPF from Azimut and as I'm waiting for white ink to finish my Tiznaos, I've done some painting experiences on the gun. The kit itself is really fine, parts are well finished and the model is easy to built except for the towing trolley [img]http://www.colleurs-d...
As I was unpacking my WWI equipment now i'm back in London, thought i'd photograph it to show how my impression is getting along - as it stands now, I have everything I need, except for my SD trousers and tunic, and the greyback shirt. I have RN deck boots but currently awaiting a pair of Lennon B5 boots, so...
