Tim, that Boirault mostrosity has to be the most ludicrous machine ever devised - it even knocks the Lebedenko into a cocked hat! Great article, it's good to see such obscure insanity remembered!
I thought I'd seen it before, check out this French site:

Hi guys!
As you might have guessed from the 'topic' line, I'd like any input on the Austro-Daimler Armoured Car of 1904, please. For such an historically significant vehicle, there's a surprising lack of information. Of the very few photos on t'internet, most are taken from more or less the...
This in regard of WW1 Military Modelling. As I see it is clearly a part of the Modelling Hobby that is gathering momentum: signs of this are the fact that more and more kits are coming, publications are not as rare as before, and that many aftermarket parts and sets are appearing. Still it is a minority se...
Hello to ALL
I am currently looking for information on the elusive Italian Alfaromeo Ionfonosch Halftrack, My information tells me it was built in 1918. Does any one have any pictures, drawings, test trial information. I have one small picture, but any help would be greatly a...
I've just seen a shipment from Matador Models, with some of their latest WW1 releases, among them a detail set for the EMHAR 1/72 Whippet and Torpedo Spuds for the Mk I-II. Very nicely moulded, nice detail. Review will follow. I've also learnt that the Tadpole Tail Conversion Set for the 1/72 EMHAR Mk I...

The fourth gun down with the multi-color outlined camoflage. It appears to be a 75-mm field gun. Looks like an Erhardt but gun is mounted very low and shield is unusually tall?

I have been emailing Obscurata a lot recently, and he has been telling me about an obscure Russian book he used to own, that delved into the history of USA armor in Nicaragua during the 1927-1933 'Constitutionalist War', in which a USA backed government, and US Marines, fought against Nicaraguan gue...
I have seen pictures of this armored car in many books, and I'm sure most of you have also.
However, in every single book I have, it is simply called a "French armored car". So I have never learned its true name or history!
It's a really neat looking vehicle. I'd love to see some better pictures of...
I've seen several mentions of a pre-WW1 French AFV of some kind, referred to as The Levavasseur Machine.
I haven't been able to find any pictures of it, and the only Levavasseur I can find seems to have been an early aircraft designer.
Can anyone throw any light on this?
At the link below is a photo of the breach end of a field gun with a camoflage pattern outlined.? The gun looks about 3-inch or 75-mm size and reminds me of a Krupp.? I think I have other photos of front of this this same gun, or at least the?same camoflage pattern, at the Brussels museum. Please, what is thi...
For all of us that have been grumbling over the lack of aftermarket decals for WW1 Tanks, Decalcomaniacs have issued a new set "WW1 Romboids #1", with 1/72 scale markings for Mk I-III. (Yours truly have helped them with info, but I want to point out that I am not involved in this company and gain no profit...
Hello Gentleman
This of course is a hypothetical question. I am in the process of scratch building a 1/35 scale K-Wagen. I have been thinking about how to paint this colossal machine. My theory is since the prototypes were not finished before the end of the war, th...
It is really interesting that so many WWI tanks actually served in WWII!!! I wish someone could do some authoritive research and compile a book on the subject. It would make for a fascinating read.
For one, France had tons of FT-17s and used them against the Germans early in WWII, and then Germany g...
The Vezdekhod - a legend of the Soviet military history. In the literature 60-70? years it was usually informed, that it was the first prototype of the tank, but the inert imperial administration has prevented the inventor. Even images of the high-grade fighting machine were shown. Actually the Ve...
Help needed to determine if a WW1 trophy gun 10.5cm M16 could have arrived in Australia with different size steel tyres. One size is about 80mm wide and the other is about 160mm. The wheel structure seems identical except for this. I suspect that a wheel of a larger gun, maybe a 15cm one could have been us...
I think it would be possible to back-date a Whippet kit to its original prototype form. I'm not a modeller, merely an avid WWI Tank fan, but I think this would be possible.
Here is an excerpt from a book of mine, describing the changes one would need to do to make a 'First Whippet'.
"The Oldbury de...
Hello
I am looking for any information concerning the French Lefebvre half-track gun tractor, I have a small picture, but not a lot of information, what I have came from Ellis & Chamberlain. Any other information would greatly appreciated.

Gentleman
Hello, I am looking for more information on the Char A ,Designed as a break through tank in 1916, Here is what I have thus far: ?By July 1916, a team headed by Messrs Jammy and Savatier undertook studies for a heavy "break-through" tank, or Char Lourd. The FCM e...
I was talking to my brother about WWI tanks. He has read some books on the politics of WWI, and he says he understands the "totality" of WWI.
He says that the impact of Tanks in WWI was 1% of the reason for the outcome.
He says that the Munitions Strike in Germany was really the biggest thing that le...
Greetings,
I am curious as to use of the many German 77-mm FK96, 7.7-cm FK 16 and the Austrian 8-cm M05 field guns after the war. There must have beeh a plethora of them left as war booty but I do not hear of their use in the 1930's and 1940's. Who got them? None of my refer...
Every tank of WWI had a different engine efficiency rating. This was due to the fact that all transmissions lose a bit of energy from the engine, when they supply power to the tracks.
So I have created a table listing the efficiency of selected AFVs of WWI. I list this efficiency as MPHpHPpT, Miles P...
To a limited extent, many WWI tanks looked like some prop a steam-punk super-villain would use in a thwarted attempt at global domination.
One tank however, seems to be the most evil looking tank I have ever seen.
The US Engineer Corps 'Steam Tank' of 1918.
This monster was 50 tons, had 1/...
It would be neat if someone made a kit of the worlds first tracked armored vehicle. All my books point to it being one particular vehicle...

Gentleman,
I have ran across a few pictures of the Schneider CA2 tank, This vehicle was one of the two project tanks by Schneider, Bascilly a redesign of there Schneider CA1, this vehicle was modified by the addition of a small turret with a 47mm gun, it was an all round traverse, like...
Towards the end of WWI, German armor designers were quickly catching up with the French and British. Their LK-1 and LK-2 were quite a bit better than the Whippet which they tried to copy, and eventually they thought about designing new tanks from scratch with the experience gained from their success...
I had always wondered what the Medium C Male would have looked like. No one seemed to be able to find a picture of the plans or anything of the sort.
Feast your eyes. Scanned right out of a little russian book all about WWI tanks I found.
