Minor warning - if doing research on Joseph Vollmer (see another gently glowing thread) be aware that there was also a Heinrich Vollmer involved in tank work in the 1920s and 30s - mainly in the area of armaments. This can confuse searches. It would be interesting to know if the two were related.
I found this when brousing for something entirely different. It seems to be part of someone's holiday snaps - but does any one have any idea what the gun is?
3 more guns. Although only one is exact ww1 vintage I've been told that 2 were rolled out against the Turks and one was captured from them. I have no way of verifying this.
See enclosed blowup from a Pathe still. Its slightly foreshortend but reasonably clear. Whats the box like structure between the cab and the hatch? There are a few odd things in this photo - the man in the hatch with a full set beard - ok for the Navy (and some Czarist units) but anathema in the British arm...
Hello Gentleman
Here is a long complicated question, which I am sure some one can answer.
I am searching for a comprehensive list of Tanks used at the Battle of Cambrai.
Male to Female ratio
Tanks destroyed.
Number and name of each tank.
Crew names, and those tha...
I've got rather caught up in exactly how many Tanks were used at Amiens, and it?s very difficult to find two sets of numbers the same.
First, the French; Rhomboid and Mad Zeppelin are right according to Guenaff & Jurkiewicz. The 10th BCL (Bataillon de Chars Legers...
I enclose a picture of a wrecked tank
The sponsons and roof hatch proclaim it a Mk IV but its census no. and track adjuster (see attached blowups) seem to indicate Mk I. I'm sure that this isn't the case - any explanations?
Early supply tanks
It is a commonly repeated view that supply tanks were conversions of obsolete marks. This is incorrect insofar as the Mk IV supply tanks are concerned. The record of tank orders show that 180 Mk IV s were ordered from the factory as supply tanks at a time when the Mk IV was in...
Can any one help by answering the following?
If I am looking at a side view of a tank that has had its sponsons removed and I cannot see the track tensioners or the roof hatch is there any way I can easily tell if its a Mk I, a Mk II, a MK III or a Mk IV? The side of the cab is visible but not the front.
Tank and Aircraft Cooperation 1918
One factor in the success of British tank operations in the later part of 1918 that is often overlooked is the increasing cooperation between the Tank Corps and the newly formed RAF that resulted in squadrons dedicated to tank support. (One possible reason...
Has anyone heard of this vehicle? Anyone have any pictures?
I bought a 15mm model of it but no idea how to assemble it.
It is a truck mounted AA gun with a large circular armour assembly.
Thanks,
Chris
"...against a pink sunset sky" is how Basil Henriques described Solomon J. Solomon's camouflage scheme. Here's my group build project in progress - a small dio of Solomon giving Mother her "face-lift" will hopefully be complete by the deadline.
is there any way we can extend the dead line till the end of summer?
I know this is pushing it, but this would allow more projects in!

Arising out of thre discussions re supply tanks Forage et al I've been taking a hard look at the general subject of call signs and numbers. Its proving to be a significant task. I am posting the first fruits which consist of an examination of the call signs and names of F battalion - much more to follow.

I read on the now-defunct "www.battlefield.ru" website that:
"In Russia, the very first tankette project was independently developed in 1919 by the Russian engineer I. Maksimov. The tankette was named "Sh'itonoska" which meant "Shield Carrier." The vehicle was armed with one machine-gun...
Were the Mk IV Beute tanks camo all similar to the one that Peter has modeled or of the type without the outlined patches? Need to paint up six for gaming and don't want them all to look the same unless that is the way they are suppose to look.
Thanks,
Chris
Bit of a blast from the past, as it were, in the form of the Fowler Armoured Road Train. Peter Kempf posted an excellent article on Landships a while back, and I've just found some more information and, most interestingly, more photos, including Peter's 30cwt 6-in howitzer loaded aboard one of the arm...

I?ve just been reading The First World War by John Keegan, and, unfortunately, a great deal of what he says in his few mentions of Tanks is wrong. In some cases it?s not enough to describe them as inaccuracies; there are some absolute howlers.
The Somme and Cambrai are described in simplifi...
The closing down of the free access of the Forum was deplorable but necessary. I will soon try and open it up again, to see if the problem we had before with unwanted outside postings will return. Hopefully not.
Let's keep our fingers crossed

As you may have noticed from another One Man Tank thread, I am quite interested in the concept of a one man AFV. I was perusing a book today, and I noticed a listing that for some reason I had never noticed before - the T-17
I started digging through pictures in my book collection, aswell as online, but...
