I came across the following?information in the Stern papers at the Liddell Hart Archives which I thought might interest some of you.?It is an illustration of how inaccurate early tank guns were. Several days after the 16 April 1917 tank attack, Estienne told a British delegation that the short 75mm...

Hello, I'm modelling (first time effort!) a small 1917 diorama.? I've almost fininshed the tank and I used the colour suggested on the forum, which looks really good to my eyes.? Now I'm doing three German 76mm field guns (Emhar 1:35). Does anybody know a good colour match for a 1917 Germ...
Hi, ??? Would the A.P.Turret as used on the early a/cars all be of the same basic design, my reason for asking is to be able to add an open roof hatch on the turret of my 1/35 Lanchester. So far I have not been able to find an accurate drawing large enough of the Lanchester, so am wondering if the R/R turret hat...
The Caterpillar company history states that C L Best and Holt merged in 1925 however in dragging (or in this context would crawling be a beter term?) the US patent database I note that C L Best was already assigning his patents to the Holt company as early as 1915 which suggests a much earlier associatio...
Further to my recent humiliation in Private Eye (the?Stalinist lickspittles?didn't print my attempt to wriggle out of it) I was mortified to come across this photo, allegedly of a British soldier sporting a German helmet captured in July, 1916. What on earth is that on his head? All is lost.
Another one from the patent archives. Pliny E Holt designed this again about 1917. The design is missing some vital things like recoil and elevation mechanisms but still interesting for all that (I think Pliny left boring details like making it work to somebody else.
Looking for pictures, maps, drawings (pretty much anything) of what the H-line looked like. Can't seem to get my mind around what it looked like. Any info. is appreciated. Thanks, Chris
This picture is said to show "Belgium's First Tanks". Anyone know when they got them? Post-War or in time for the final offensives of 1918? The caption says they're at Beverloo Camp. Is it to be trusted? -- Edited by James H at 05:14, 2007-02-14
Hi all, A friend of mine lost the instructions to his 1:35 Whippet. Could anyone provide an electronic copy? That would be most helpful. My email address is josephkamikaze@yahoo.com Thanks Joe
Hello, I've just noticed that United States patents are now searchable on Google. For the first time US patents filed before the early 1970's are fully searchable online! This means that it is possible to do a search for "armored car" or "tank" and find all sorts of int...

I recently purchased the box-set of 'Century of Warfare' - 8 discs with over 24 hours of viewing for ?13.99! Anyway, the first few episodes deal with the Great War and are chock-full of great old footage. I've attached some screencaps, featuring an Italian Obice 305 being towed, a Skoda...
I've accumulated quite a bit of info (some of it quite contradictory) on flamethrowers. Many thanks to Eugene for info on Russian models - this filled a big hole. I've made a start on an article but there are some things I'd like to get a bit more clarity on before I continue. Also I've had a lot of files sen...
They don't like Waterloo 1815's set of WW1 Italians in 1/72 at plasticsoldierreview. However the sculpting does not seem that bad to me, the sculptor seems to be the same of the Orion sets and BUM's Spanish Civil War sets. Any ideas for conversions? Could these figures go as French? A cou...
I attach a photo showing these vehicles in company with two full size armoured cars - shows just how twee they were.
The car on which they were based was the 1938 model Simca 5 (not to be confused with the later 1947 Simca 5). This was a French version of the tiny 1937 Fiat 500 (NSU also built a German versi...

A friend and I gamed a scenario based on the British breaking through the Hindenburg Line in the Fall of 1918 (modified Trench Fight). The British have a Rifle Co. of three platoons, a Mortar Platoon, HMG Platoon, Tank Platoon, an Artillery Battery w/Heavy Gun support and Priority Air Support. The Ge...
We all know that Martel employed Morris Motors to build the production models of his one-man and two-man tanks.
Apparently, Morris Motors was enchanted enough with the idea to give it another go in the early 1940's!
"The Morris one-man armored car was a prototype. It was a small single seat a...
