I know this has been discussed before but I searched for that discussion and was thwarted. This famous photo of a pigeon being released from a tank is usually cropped but in the larger version there is a number visible. To me it looks like the number is 4069 or perhaps 4089, which would make this a MkIV, bu...
Hello, I am in the process of modelling this fascinating, historical gun in SolidWorks. Have attached raw renders of the current state. Comments are welcome; there are still a lot of details missing and/or unclear, but at least the overall proportions are way better than the Takom kit. My sources ar...
Came across the American engineer Emil Francis Norelius who apparently worked for Holt during WW1 and designed or significantly contributed to the designof the 1918 Holt SPGs. He also designed the M1921 Medium tank which incorporated some of the design features of the British Medium D.Anyone e...
Production of the 42cm granate introduced a filling step where molten TNT is poured into the granate. During cool down the TNT shrinks but starts to solidify from the the outsides in. This can cause a solid outside while the core is still molten and fluid. If you continue a open cavity/ space will be cre...
The Trefass-Wagen was a Hansa-Lloyd design from 1917. The prototype was finished on February 1st, 1917. It had two large steel wheels with a diameter of approximately 11ft. The rear wheel was similar to a large caster and was used for steering. It had extensions mounted on both sides of the steering y...
The Steam 3-Wheeled Tank remains the most mysterious tank built in the US in World War I. Here's a couple of new pieces to the puzzle. I found a second photo of the pilot sitting at APG in the mid 1920s at NARA. Unfortunately, it is from the rear rather than the front which is already relatively well unders...
Am building the 35th scale model by Luis Vargas - any idea what colour (if any) it was painted? I'm leaning towards plain steel as it was so big, there was no point in camouflaging it!! Looking at the photos, it does seem to be dark in some of them, but in others, not.
Dear all, since I am aware of the existance of this medal (since 1992) I was looking for it. Never seen one, but now I found one. But .... I only know it was made for the 70th anniversary of the battle of Berry au bac and the first engagement of the Char Schneider. My medal is stamped with the number 147 at t...
Very quiet on the Forum lately. Have we discovered all there is to know? Anyway, I'm trying to find trench maps for the Battle of the Selle, 17–25 October 1918, particularly in the vicinity of Regnicourt, Andigny-les-Fermes, and Vaux-Andigny, south of Le Cateau. Maybe a long shot, but Landshippers...
I am hoping that some of the forum members may be able to help me to better understand the construction of the early British tanks. I am attempting to construct 1/12 scale models and a 3d CAD model of each mark, I have a bunch of original blueprints from Bovington, but they are incomplete. I am tryinig to u...
Fiat 2000 reconstructionFor the last year or more I have been working with a great team of Italian guys who have been working on building a full size (yes 1:1 scale) replica of the famous Fiat 2000 tank. There are obviously a few repro Renault FT’s and M1917, and even an A7V, St. Chamond, Schneider CA1,...
Hello! I´ve got a question according email notifications. I activated all notifications. But I didn´t receive any notifications. The spam-folder is empty too. Are there any problems with the german "t-online.de" addresses? Thanks a lot
Hello! I´ve got a question on 2732. According to the tank lists, it was a female Mk IV of C-Battalion, 9th company, eliminated Nov.20, 1917 with the number C51 I checked WO95/106. But for that date no C51 was listed. The landship site says, probably they were confused and 2732 had number C41. But in the l...
Looking at photos of the above-mentioned tanks, it seems that at one stage they went to a dipole aerial instead of the monopole aerial. The also had a dirty great big hose reel on top. Can anyone shed light on these items?
Hello, Does anybody have a good drawing or photographs of the Wilson epicyclic steering used the in the Mk V tank? I've always found it odd that in sources for the Mk IV the outboard 2-speed gear-sets are often in covered in great detail with drawings and photos... whereas the steering in Mk V seems...
Hello, I was wondering if anybody has tried to order copies of original tank plans from Bovington recently? I had always intended to order plans for the Mk. IV tanks...I seem to remember "Plan Packs" being offered on their website at one time, but are no longer listed. The only old post I found ment...
A little nugget from the Battle of the Selle, October 1918. The North Staffordshires launched a feint to divert attention from the main attack. "To further the deception, three Royal Engineer carpenters constructed, at four hours' notice, 90 dummy figures and a mechanism for raising them. These w...

Attached is an image of the breech ring markings of a 10cm lFH 16 howitzer. The manufacturer mark "ES" is a puzzle - I know I've seen it before but my failing memory just won't cooperate - anyone help - please? Regards, Charlie
I stumbled across a photo of Scunthorpe's presentation tank that made it look like their tank was a supply or baggage tank (tank tender). I looked for other photos and found some, and, yes, Scunthorpe's presentation tank was a baggage tank that appears to have been used for training. Looking at the E...
A Dutch group of engineers are building a working 1:1 exterior replica of 8019 F41 Fray Bentos II Mark IV Male for the 100year anniversary of the tank action near their town. Any photos and information would be helpful (it has a modern engine so the crew can breath)
I stumbled across this pic of a Hedi. Is it new (I know that's ridiculous because it was taken about a hundred years ago, but you know what I mean)? Hedi on Alamy
? Trying to unscramble the Krupp 10cm (105mm) export guns. Krupp designed a 107mm M08 gun for the Russian Army, similar to the 10cm M05 gun sold to Turkey - anyone know how many guns were delivered to Russia? The Russians also ordered 120 107mm guns from the Japanese in 1914 - these were based on the 10cm T...
Greetings all. Could anybody please identify what the 'T' bar did on the N.S.L. on the top of the tank body? [Looking forwards from the turret]. Also the apparent circular indentation on the opposite side. My only conclusion is the 'T' bar could be for hanging the tow-rope on. Many thanks in advanc...
